6 new stories from me, and 8 wonderful stories written for me

I was busy this yuletide! I also received many wonderful things from many wonderful people, which are also going to be linked in this post now that they're revealed and you can go look at their other fic!

My stuff:

Death and Promises in Winnipeg (5474 words) by Rosencrantz
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Fandom: Dana Knightstone Series (Video Games)
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Dana Knightstone, Bandit (Dana Knightstone Series (Video Games))
Additional Tags: Case Fic, Ghosts, Misses Clause Challenge, Television, Interviews, Tragic Romance
Summary:

Dana's interview turns into unearthing a lost play and finding out what happened to a group of performers fifty years ago.

This one was my main assignment and took me the longest.

See, before Yuletide sign-ups were up, there was a post where you could tell people about your fandoms! And my recipient posted about the Dana Knightstone games, hiddenobject/puzzle games with a writer who could see ghosts as the protagonist. I don't know who knows this, but I am all the heck about ghost mysteries, so I bought the first game and was like, oh my god, this is so fun!

So come sign-ups, I put that one in my sign up because I've already bought the other games and I am pretty down with writing for it/having a reason to complete them speedily.

And then-bam! This was my assignment. It was great.

I took the longest with this one, because it wasn't worldbuilding like @worstmuse and House Hippos where I was just creating as I went, so I did it in blocks of work thanks to the word wars in chat. The very first thing I came up with was the axe joke.

Anyway, super glad I got assigned this, and loved writing it!

The Red-Furred League (3402 words) by Rosencrantz
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: The Great Mouse Detective (1986)
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Basil of Baker Street, David Dawson, Mrs. Judson (The Great Mouse Detective)
Additional Tags: Case Fic, convergent mouse society, i'm sorry i didn't manage to cross this over with the rescuers, references to mouse burlesque, it's not a direct lift
Summary:

A young red mouse comes to Basil of Baker Street with a most unique case.

This was a last-minute Pinch Hit I picked up that never even went to the list. See, we'd discovered that I couldn't get the yahoo list to work for me earlier (no reply button for some reason) and I was already working on this story when I saw that this recipient did not already have a fic.

So what I did was ask the mods very nicely if I could have her, if she was going to PH. I was gleeful to get my request!

I chose the Red-Haired League because I loved that con, and it was the first Holmes mystery that came to mind that didn't involve murrrrder. And then I started changing details.

An important part of the process was watching the movie very carefully for which mice had hairdos. Answer: All prominent female mice only had fur (background mice would have hair) and male lead mice would have facial hair. Also, the movie is so good. I loved rewatching it.

I included a hamster, because I love hamsters. Originally there was going to be a dire villain hamster, but I realized that would be a bad trend with all the non-mice (except Toby) being villains in the movie.

What a lovely prompt this one was.

There Are No Return Slips For Muses (1258 words) by Rosencrantz
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: @WorstMuse
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Worst Muse, Original Female Character(s)
Additional Tags: Misses Clause Challenge, Bad Ideas, Bad Writing, Friendship, Writer's Block, Writing, Humor
Summary:

Every author dreams of the day their muse will come and bestow them with idea upon idea!

Delia Littlechild should have stayed in bed.

When Moriann said she was going to request @WorstMuse, the idea was pretty much already in my head. Also, there is criminallhy little information about In Searh of April Raintree out there.

This made a lot of people laugh, and to that I say mission accomplished.

A House Hippo Adrift in the Manitoban Wilderness (1465 words) by Rosencrantz
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: House Hippo (Concerned Children's Advertisers PSA)
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: baby house hippo, mother house hippo
Additional Tags: Diary/Journal, Action/Adventure, Misses Clause Challenge, Talking Animals, Exploration
Summary:

The North American House Hippo is a proud species of hippo that is very tiny and lives in your home. This is the found journal of one who found herself outside the warmth of a house and in the Manitoban wilderness.

I was pretty lucky there was no letter for this request, because I wrote it with either the idea that if it fit what the person wanted, I'd give it to them, and if it didn't I'd post it independently of yuletide. In the end there was no letter.

I almost died taking these photos! I was outside, in the cold, running up and down stairs and hills and bending to weird angles to take photos centimetres off the ground.

I was informed later people recognized my cat. He is a star. He's even a tag on yuletide now, thanks to a wonderful treat I got.

Good Old English Sleuthing (and nose-holding) (100 words) by Rosencrantz
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Agatha Christie's Poirot (TV)
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Arthur Hastings/Hercule Poirot
Characters: Arthur Hastings, Hercule Poirot
Additional Tags: yumadrin, Drabble, Character Study
Summary:

The sewers? Non non non! I have my good friend, Hastings, to protect me from such things! Without him, I am cast adrift.

This was my first drabble ever! I'd co-written them with Ann before, but hadn't tried the writing exercise myself.

I love Poirot, and I like how in the show it acts like he and Hastings are boyfriends and Hastings just hasn't noticed yet.

Later, she learned how to turn into a bigass dragon (100 words) by Rosencrantz
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Sleeping Beauty (1959)
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Maleficent
Additional Tags: yumadrin, Drabble, Origins, Misses Clause Challenge
Summary:

Sure, you can get your Maleficent origin from the movie of the same title, OR you could try this one on for size.

I wrote this as much for the prompt as for my friend Hina who liked herself a wicked Maleficent. My second drabble. It was great fun to do.

Dinotopia:

Feet (2380 words) by UrbanAmazon
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Dinotopia - James Gurney
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Bix (Dinotopia), Enit (Dinotopia)
Summary:

Ambassadors certainly do not leap from the egg, fully formed. As a young scholar with youthful ambitions newly transplanted to Waterfall City, Bix makes a beginner’s mistake and learns a rather fundamental lesson about being a proper guest… especially in a library.

Bix backstory! The author manages to convey with words as much as the art did, and had me worried and cheering for Bix.

This starts off the list of very excellent stories I recieved.

Every thread (860 words) by Clocketpatch
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Dinotopia - James Gurney
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Additional Tags: Utopia, Slice of Life
Summary:

Together, even impossible dreams can become reality.

A story set in Dinotopia not featuring the main 'cast.' Two old friends and a community working together. It was a sweet story that I enjoyed very much! It embodied the best parts of the Dinotopia universe.

Hallo, Yuletide Writer by nausicaa

Funny little dear author letter from Zalgon 26 McGee. I keep going back to reread this. nausicaa manages to get things jusssst unsettling enough.

4 Perfectly Innocent Explanations for Zalgon 26 McGee (2088 words) by Morbane

(Why would you doubt that ad?)

I asked for someone to explain Zalgon, and Morbane gave me four (with the fourth a clever little crossover) perfectly logical reasons why Zalgon 26 McGee is a human who will not eat you.

A specimen of the Edwardian didactic style of feline poetry

The Tale of Ms. Oswald and the fiend Nimbus (351 words) by DigitalMeowMix
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: I Could series - Francesco Marciuliano (Poetry)
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Oswald the dog, Nimbus the cat, Dog, Cat - Character
Additional Tags: Pet RPF, A poem about the recipient's pets
Summary:

The life of a little black dog and her cat friend/brother/archenemy.

This was damn funny and unexpected. I met DigitalMeowMix in chat, and she loves to talk with people about their pets. And then she went and wrote a story about them, meaning my dear fuzzbutt jerks are now tags on ao3.

I am extremely pleased. My brother, the 'real' owner of Oswald, laughed his way through it too. I'm not sure how it would apply to people not me, but to me this was a dear present.

Lego Research Institute

A Comparison of the Composition of Asteroids and Dinosaurs: Towards A Better Understanding of Major Extinction Events (1541 words) by molybdomantic

Absolutely delightful. Full of legoese that sounds properly scientific. This fic made me laugh, and laugh often.
